Our Services

Separating couples will receive assistance from a mediator to come to an agreement on issues such as:

  • When and how to inform the children

  • Co-parenting strategies using parenting plans

  • Making decisions regarding children or dependents

  • Keeping the children “out of the middle”

  • Living arrangements

  • Child and spousal support

  • Division of property, equalization of assets

  • Making changes after separation

In addition to resolving the issues at hand, mediation has the added benefit of providing parents with new techniques to better manage their co-parenting differences in the future.

Onsite Family Mediation

Onsite Family Mediation Services are available free of charge for parties that are before the Family Court on that day. These mediations are typically provided on a first come first served basis and will be given up to 2 hours depending upon the demands on the given day. This includes an intake and screening process. The issues addressed are those that are before the courts that are manageable within this time frame. If successful, the RCMS Mediator will provide the parties with a Mediation Summary Report that can be drafted in to a Minutes of Settlement or a Consent Order.

Off-site Family Mediation

Off-site Family Mediation Services are for more complex disputes that will require scheduled appointments outside of the courthouse. You do NOT need to be in court to access this service. Offsite mediation services are provided through the Ministry of the Attorney General who subsidize up to 6 hours of mediation. User fees for off-site mediation are charged to clients on a sliding scale based on their income and number of dependents. The first two hours are provided my MAG to conduct the intake and screening process. Offsite services are offered virtually and in-person.

Information and Referral Services

The Information and Referral Coordinator will assist parents by providing information related to separation and divorce and directing them, if necessary, to an appropriate legal or community resource so that they can make informed decisions for themselves and for their children. The IRC will help guide them through what can be a very confusing legal process and stressful life transition.

Mandatory Information Program

Court clients are required to attend a free 2 hour information session designed to provide information on the emotional and social impact of separation on children and families, as well as to inform parties of the court and legal processes. The MIP will also cover potential alternatives available to help clients resolve their disputes. This information session is also available to the public and any one looking to gain more information about the family court process, separation and divorce, and parental rights and obligations. If you would like to schedule a MIP, please email rcms.mip@gmail.com.
